Cradle Cap And Seborrheic Dermatitis Treatment

Notice of his neck, and arm pits, and behind his ears, scaliness and redness on his scalp. What is it and what should I do?

Baby Exzema?
Eczema is a general term used to describe a number of different skin conditions. It usually appears as reddened skin that becomes moist and oozing, occasionally resulting in small fluid filled bumps. When Eczema becomes chronic the skin tends to thicken, dry out, and become scaly with coarse lines.
Two Types Of Eczema: Atopic Dermatitis And Contact Dermatitis

Know the type of skin condition your baby have.
When this rush occurs on the scalp alone its known as cradle cap. It can extend to the face and the diaper area, too, and when it does pediatricians call it seborrheic dermatitis.

Seborheic Dermatitis
Is noninfectious skin condition that’s very common on infants, usually beginning in the first week of life and slowly disappearing over a period of weeks or months. Unlike atopic or contact eczema its rarely uncomfortable or itchy.

Cradle Cap self-treatment
If your baby's Seborrheic Dermatitis is confined to his scalp ( and its, therefore just cradle cap), you can treat it yourself. You should wash hair with mild shampoo more frequently that before along with soft brushing will help remove the scales.
My doctor prescribe Rx only DERMA-SMOTHE/FS Fluocinolone Acetomide 0.01% Topical Oil (scalp oil) for my baby before it got worst. There was 2 option on how to treat the 4 months old baby. 1 apply the oil on the scalp and leave it there overnight which is scary because after you apply the oil you must cover it up with shower cap and if you leave it overnight the baby might choke on the shower cap. 2 During the day for several hours and your baby wont be happy about and, he or she might just take the shower cap off. For me I choose the option 2. I rather set in front of my baby all day long than risk chocking on option 1.

Baby shampoos
Doctor may prescribe some medication to treat the scales and the redness. Consult your pediatricians before using stronger medicated shampoos ( antiseborrhea shampoos containing sulfur and 2% salicylic acid) to loosen the scales more quickly.Call your pediatrician if frequent shampooing doesn't improve cradle cap, or if the rash spreads to your baby's neck, face, and crease areas who he/she may suggest stronger , scale-dissolving shampoo and also prescribe cortisone cream. 1% of hydrocortisone cream is commonly used preparation. Once the condition has improved you can prevent it from recurring by frequent hair washing with mild baby shampoo.

Baby oil

Many parents tried to use the none perfumed baby oil or mineral oil and do nothing else. Baby oil is not very helpful, it only allows scales to build up on the scalp particularly over the rear soft spot, or fontanel.

Eye And Skin Infection
Conjunctivitis (pinkeye), lice, ringworm, scabies, and cold sore are common problems on young children. Fortunately, these are not serious illness, but they are uncomfortable and inconvenient. These affliction of the skin and mucous membranes can be spread by toughing a person on the affected area. Contact your pediatrician for early diagnosis and treatment.

*If crease areas becomes extremely reddened and quite itchy your pediatrician might prescribe some specific antiyeast cream containing the medicine Nystatin.

*Nor is it an allergy to something your using, or due to poor hygiene, rest assured that seborrheic dermatitis is not a serious infection. It will go away without any scars, and your baby will be beautiful again.
